"When I look out my window

What do you think I see?

And when I look in my window

So many different people to be

It's strange, sure it's strange

You've got to pick up every stitch

You've got to pick up every stitch

The rabbits running in the ditch

Oh no, must be the season of the witch."

       -- Donovan Leitch

Or should we say "Oh no, must be the season of Eclipse"?  From the Solstice on Jun 21 right through August, we could find ourselves wondering what kind of season this possibly could be.  It may feel like we're hurtling through space, passing through two Eclipses and a number of skirmishes in the Battle of the Planetary Big Boys, dismantling our economy, our ecology, and who we used to be.

Yet, mid-June has its redeeming qualities, especially as Venus in fun-loving Leo keeps the dancing beat with Uranus and Jupiter, activating our love and money cards from Jun 14 to Jun 18.

Lunar aspects on Jun 19 carry us through a contrasting range of emotions. Fortunately, except for the night owls, those in the U.S. will work out most of the conflicts in their dreamtime.  Still, early morning reality may be abrupt, as the Sun squares Saturn and our desire to get down to brass tacks directs most of the day.   Late afternoon through the evening, we can feel the loveliness of the Sun trine Neptune as we're drawn to a spiritual gathering or perhaps a viewing of an uplifting movie.

How nice to have the Moon in gentle Libra on Father's Day, Jun 20.  With amiable aspects of the Moon and Mercury, congenial conversation makes for a memorable time.

Just like the New Moon foreshadows the theme of the next 28 days, so the Solstice defines the season.  It should come as no surprise to hear that this summer (winter in the southern hemisphere) is likely to be packed with challenges and realizations, breakdowns and breakthroughs.   The Sun in Cancer advocates for holding on to the past and perceived safety, while erratic Uranus bolts for the future and unknown frontiers.  Simultaneously, both the Sun and Uranus are at 0 degrees of cardinal signs, indicating the certainty of global upheaval on many fronts, as Pluto continues to demand a new order.  Add expansive Jupiter to the mix and both principles and differences can appear overinflated.  So untwist your knickers and fasten your seat belts -- it could be a bumpy ride.

On the plus side, as we all know, these times always carry with them profound reason and opportunity to grow and reference from a higher perspective. A flexible and conscious approach to such life-altering circumstances can bring out untapped talents and creative abilities to map whole new paths to greater fulfillment.  While some elements may require redefinition or relinquishment, others can appear that promise exciting reinvention.  Though our planet and our lives may be shaken, so is a malted, and the yearning for a tasty new way has actually been calling to us for a while.  We are now entering the time when we can no longer deny the call.

Early on Jun 22, aspects from the Sun to Chiron and the Moon to the Nodes weave a rope bridge for our cautious exploration from what was to what might be.

Events that appear to be bigger than life probably are on Jun 23. As the Sun squares Jupiter, amplifying and overextending current imbalances, we can feel the pressure building toward the upcoming Grand Cross Eclipse on Jun 26.  Yet, the Jupitarian optimism, along with the Moon in Sagittarius, can also encourage us to step forward and lead the way.

We can worry about what's still not complete or we can jump in and clear what sits in front of us on Jun 24, when Mercury squares Saturn.  I'd get my workout shoes ready to go.  Besides, a few hours later we might want the cleared space to meditate, create, or jot down those inspired visions when Mercury trines Neptune and our mental wings are yearning to fly.

Thoughts melt into feelings when Mercury moves into emotion-based Cancer from Jun 25 until Jul 9.  Although our receptors may be overly sensitive, our instincts can serve as finely honed radar in the uncharted territory ahead.  Then unexpected news can knock out the best laid plans as Mercury squares eccentric Uranus.  Do note that this same energy can produce flashes of brilliant insight and solutions. However, in the midst of this electrifying surge, a deep dark rumbling can be felt, as the Sun faces off in opposition to Lord Pluto.  What's been hidden and festering must come to the surface.  Like a planetary and personal root canal, that which is toxic will be released for the sake of real healing and rebuilding.  And with Mercury trine Chiron, even the discomfort of the process can be seen in a larger context.

"Somebody shake me (shake me), wake me (wake me)

When it's over (when it's over)

Somebody tell me that I'm dreamin'

And wake me when it's over"

Lamont Dozier, Brian Holland, Eddie Holland

As the Full Moon Eclipse on Jun 26 tells us, there's no nitrous oxide cure to soften the reality of the mess our world is experiencing.  Oil spills, ecological upheavals, economic woes, and clashing ideologies are rampant.  Just prior to the actual Eclipse, Mercury square Jupiter fills us with exaggerated reports and too much information to make sense.  Within arm's length of the Solstice, this partial lunar Eclipse is one of the most major alignments of the year.  The Sun in Cancer desperately reaches for security, while the Moon in Capricorn demands adherence to duty.  And with unyielding Pluto conjunct the Moon opposite the Sun, intense emotions are evoked by fierce power struggles.

In a Grand Cross lineup, Uranus/ Jupiter and Saturn join the fray as they square the Sun and Moon/Pluto and oppose each other.  The unexpected infuses our world and our personal lives. When the outer slow-moving planets configure like this, we know that the results will be dramatic and long-lasting. This crack in our collective psyche is way beyond super glue.  Political rhetoric and cosmetic fixes can no longer detour this crucial and much-needed turning point.

 "Nowhere to run to, baby

Nowhere to hide

Got nowhere to run to, baby

Nowhere to hide"

--Brian Holland/Lamont Herbert Dozier/ Edward Holland, Jr.

We can cover our heads and look for mythical cover, but...  It's time to rewrite our personal and global scripts.  We can try to keep pointing to outside blame and whimper in victim mode.  But that sounds quite unattractive, as well as ineffective.  We can also opt for individual responsibility -- sweep up the broken shards of what's not working, preserve the good stuff, and get on with the next steps.  The means for productive change are at hand if we are willing to reach for them.  Although it may be scary, we don't have to be who we thought we had to be!  We just have to be who we are.  It's truly the best we can do and it's pretty darn good.

Still in the window of the Lunar Eclipse, Mercury opposes Pluto on Jun 27, deepening our thoughts and even exposing our fears.  But then how else can we be free of them, unless we acknowledge their shadow?

Ideas can feel quite personal when the Sun joins Mercury in subjective Cancer on Jun 27.  Realizations could be very helpful individually, yet may not apply as a general concept to others.

The Moon in cool Aquarius from the morning of Jun 28 to the evening of Jun 30 helps provide objective perspective for all the inner and outer upheaval.  This step back may reveal some stimulating alternative directions and unusual resources that could lead to the freedom we are seeking.  The power of the recent Eclipse still reverberates, encouraging us to move forward and dare to explore the gifts of a transforming world and our place within it.

June 2010 - Part I

"June is bustin' out all over,

All over the meadow and the hill...

June is bustin' out all over

The feelin' is gettin' so intense"

-- Rodgers/Hammerstein

It's pretty much impossible to ignore the signs of something different about to burst into the open.  Fortunately for those in the Northern hemisphere, the blossoming flowers and trees remind us that we're still part of a greater cycle, even if personal definition is somewhat beyond our grasp.  The movement this month may well be called the beginning of the beginning.

The Moon in Aquarius from Jun 1 to midday on Jun 3 broadens our horizons to present an idealistic, yet objective, view of situations.  Then, we may wonder if our contact lenses need adjustment on the days around Jun 4, when Mars opposes Neptune.  Those of fanatic persuasions may overdo their misguided acts. Even with the loftiest of intentions, our aim could miss the mark, so it's best to proceed carefully.

"...I love the nightlife,

I got to boogie on the disco 'round, oh yea.

...Action...I've got so much to give.

I want to give it.  I want to get some too."

--Alicia Bridges/Susan Hutcheson

Action is the theme when expansive Jupiter moves into courageous Aries from Jun 6 until Sep 9.  Amplified by the Moon in Aries on Jun 6, 7 and morning of Jun 8, sitting still is no longer a viable option. How and where have we held ourselves back, blaming circumstance?  Even the absence of movement is a statement in itself, so get up and boogie!  With Jupiter in the sign of leadership, each one of us gets to discover our own personal style.

With Mars in definitive Virgo from Jun 7 to Jul 29, precision tools are available to craft even the most complex plan.  This detail-orientation can be quite helpful, unless the Virgo obsession with perfection gets out of control.

Whoever is ready for adventure, raise your hand.  Whoever is not ready, well, get ready 'cause here it is!  Jumpin' Jupiter and electric Uranus conjunct on Jun 8 and continue their spontaneous interplay through early 2011.

"Just slip out the back, Jack

Make a new plan, Stan

You don't need to be coy, Roy

Just get yourself free

Hop on the bus, Gus

You don't need to discuss much

Just drop off the key, Lee

And get yourself free."

-- Paul Simon

Change is now officially a constant. Our ability to manage it is the latest space age sudoku of life.  The unexpected is both invigorating and challenging.  Move with it.  Groove with it. Grapple with it. Above all, don't dig your heels into the past, as rigidity causes pain.  If your cake falls apart, make a pie crust with the crumbs.

The framework for everything we think we know is changing.  Our science fiction future is here now, and our minds want to break through and keep up with it.  Some events may explode while others can liberate us. Yes, it's a bit scary and a hopeful rush at the same time.  It's not only not Kansas anymore; it's a new reality for our entire planet.  Precipitous changes to our physical earth and major upgrades to our consciousness will sound the call to step up and take charge.

On the evening of Jun 8, we get a chance to assimilate this concept of future shock and tend to the needs of the here and now, when mental Mercury trines grounding Saturn.  Later that night, as Mars opposes Chiron, our inability to conceptualize all the details of our recent visions may frustrate us.  Just let it be for now and allow the connections to emerge.

With Mercury square Neptune blurring focus, things may not be as they seem.

So hold off on major decisions or contracts on Jun 9 and relax into the softness of the day.

The pace picks up on Jun 10 as a myriad of mental aspects have us thinking, talking, and interacting throughout the day into the evening.  Communicative Mercury comes home into mutable Gemini until Jun 25.  While focus may be scattered, the ability to gather information and pass it on is stellar. Then the winged messenger sextiles Uranus and Jupiter, accentuating our intellectual agility and inventive faculties to help us keep up with our own inner changes.  From the evening of Jun 10 to early morning on Jun 12, the Moon joins Mercury in Gemini and the rapid mental pace accelerates.  When Mercury squares Mars on Jun 11, conflict can provoke hasty words; so make your point without the use of any sharp verbal instruments.

The New Moon in Gemini on the morning of Jun 12 takes us for a ride on the information train.  How do we navigate through the overload of stimuli that surround us?  What do we take in and how do we utilize and pass it on? In reality, true information comes from transmissions way beyond our earthly data sources, attuning us to a greater galactic order and our connection with it.

Venus in Cancer sextiles Saturn the morning of the 12th, helping us to address our values relating to home and family as we find ways to stabilize our interactions.  Then the Moon squares Saturn and may play nay-sayer to the overwhelming number of possibilities until we rebound.  Harmonious aspects to Neptune infuse us with our spiritual knowing to soften the emotional extremes of late-night squares to Uranus and Jupiter that shake up our stagnant beliefs. Sweet lullabies finally send us off to dreamland as the Cancer Moon trines Chiron and the bridge from sensitive inner self spans the space to a world of possibility.

The nurturing Cancer Moon continues on Jun 13 and 14, bringing up our caring, protective nature, while offering a plate of homemade cookies.

Get out the fancy clothes and be ready for fun and play as Venus goes into Leo on Jun 14 until Jul 10.  Ruled by the heart, this regal lady is most generous and loving to those who attract her favor.  Her trine to Uranus from Jun 12 to 16, exact on the 14th, also opens the royal doors to unexpected love, opportunities, and money.  Just keep your heart open so the world can see you.

The theme of abundance continues as Venus trines beneficent Jupiter during that same time, exact on Jun 15.  Is there such a thing as too much good?  Not in my book!  Especially during these times of shift, it's only fair to reward us along the way.  Besides, Mars trines Pluto also on the 15th, empowering us to effect great progress on our inner and outer transformative projects.

"I feel that if one follows what I call one's "bliss"-

the thing that really gets you deep in the gut and

that you feel is your life - doors will open up...

Through your own inner experience, the divine

mystery is revealed.

-- Joseph Campbell

May 2010 - Part II

"Sunshine came softly through my window today

Could've tripped out easy but I've changed my ways."

       -- Donovan

Possibilities seem limitless as sweet connections appear from many directions on May 17.  But watch the tendency to overestimate, over-expand, and generally overdo.  With a reasonable amount of prudence, some indulgence can prove to be quite enjoyable.  Then, as the Sun sextiles Jupiter, a window of opportunity presents an even broader range of attainable goals.

A number of aspects that hover for days before and after come together on May 18.  Accountability is the name of the game as Venus squares Saturn and finances and relationships may be up for audit.  This is perfect preparation to clear the field for the Venus/Neptune trine that follows, reminding us of the real source of our inner sustenance and visionary inspiration.  Then, to seal the deal the Sun trines reliable Saturn, providing concrete applications and support.

"Purple haze all around,

Don't know if I'm comin' up or down

Am I happy or in misery?

..."

    --Jimi Hendrix

The aspects on May 19 are a mirror of the fun house our world has become.  Staying grounded is mandatory when the Sun squares Neptune, as it's easy to get swept off our feet by romantic illusion.  Fortunately, the Mercury/Pluto trine cuts through the fog to help us sort reality from fantasy or deception.  Later, Venus throws a curve ball when she squares Uranus and unhinges our assumptions about relationships and money.  Within hours, though, Lady Venus moves into sensitive, home loving Cancer until Jun 14, softening the edges of earlier disruption.  When she trines Chiron the next day, we can feel the calling to nurture those causes that would foster a world built on more caring ideals.

Just when it seemed like it was safe to settle down, the Sun sextiles Uranus on May 20 and we're out inventing a new kind of jig to perform.  Well, at least we're up dancing.  Speaking of multi-directional movement, there goes the Sun into Gemini until Jun 21, filling our days with lots of mental gymnastics and social interactions.

With the Moon in Virgo and the Sun square Chiron on May 21, we may find ourselves ping-ponging between intellectually editorializing and heartfelt pulls, with a twinge of criticism toward both sides.  Perhaps a yoga class or a file cabinet clean-up could remove us from the debate and soothe our harried nervous system.

The first of three oppositions of expansive Jupiter and contractive Saturn occurs on May 23, playing out the obvious need for real resolution of our hyper-extended global faux economy and ecology.  This change of economic pace reveals that reorganization, patience, and persistence are key, as there are no quick fixes. With Saturn still in Virgo until July21, we've got the tools to assess what is essential to take personal responsibility and make step-by-step practical changes.   The remaining repetitions will take place on Aug 16, 2010 and Mar 28, 2011 to continue the much needed repair toward balance and the inclusion of people in the profit equation.

Also on May 23, the signs that our economic and emotional debts are due are unmistakable.  Venus opposes Pluto, admonishing us that consideration and respect are far more powerful than dominion and control.

The Moon in Libra and Scorpio on May 24 and 25 brings a flow of better behaved aspects that enable us to initiate positive changes and draw helpful assets to us. On May 26, aggression may be tempting, but it's definitely counterproductive.  Channel the energy into a healthy workout or some robust yard work.  Make muscles and greenery, not war.

The Full Moon in optimistic Sagittarius on May 27 is generally a time of amplification.  The big question is what gets magnified.  The Sun in Gemini is concerned with data and facts, while the Sagittarian Moon looks to the Heavens.  Certainly, fulfilling life on Earth requires the integration of both.  That sounds pretty good, huh?  Well, there's a bit more about to break out.

Uranus, the planet of unexpected, revolutionary innovation is moving from compliant, gentle Pisces into fiery, independent "my way" Aries at the peak of this Full Moon for the first time in 83 years. If we think we know the nature of the change upon us, we know nothing - except that it's radical and unpredictable.  The good news is that brilliant new technologies will become more available and collaborative sustainable ventures can begin to thrive.  At the same time, from May 27 until Aug 13 (when Uranus retrogrades back into Pisces), we get a living preview of worlds gone wild because it's time. All over the planet, heads of countries and numbers of fanatics are flexing their biceps to prove their dominance and commitment to dogma.  The stock market and global economies most closely resemble the tilt-a-whirl ride at Coney Island. Tornadoes, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions can strike with increasing frequency and severity.

All bets are off. The calls for fairness, freedom, and independence are also reminiscent of the origins of the U.S. and the marches and demonstrations in the 1960s and early 70s.  Personally and globally, it's time for a full makeover. And it's not about demanding that anyone else fix anything for us.  It's about us taking individual responsibility for our lives, our consciousness, and our world. Those with planets in early degrees of fire or air may suddenly find themselves doing what they hadn't realized they really wanted to do. Challenges may arise and plans may change, but the opportunity to respond by sourcing from a greater destiny is also upon us because it's time.

Mercury harmonizes with the Nodes of the Moon on May 28, resulting in functional plans to organize the changes we're seeking for a new paradigm.  The Moon in Capricorn from the afternoon of May 29 to the end of the month continues in the same vein and encourages us to continue our commitment to authentic expression and participation in an emerging structure.

Venus conjuncts the South Node and the Moon the North Node on May 30, reminding us of the gifts we bring to this life that support our journey to enlightened consciousness and worldly fulfillment.  Also on May 30, Saturn begins his direct motion, underscoring our passage into transformed behaviors and a renewed sense of purposefulness.  This forward movement can provide the determination and discipline needed to create the organization for our new structural realities.

On May 31, mystical Neptune turns retrograde until Nov 16, for a review of our entrenched beliefs and a chance to recognize and dismiss what is no longer true for us.  As we head into the dramatic shifts of the coming times, our greatest asset will be our ability to know truth for ourselves.

May 2010 - Part I

"Don't stop, thinking about tomorrow,

Don't stop, it'll soon be here,

It'll be, better than before,

Yesterday's gone, yesterday's gone."

          - Christine McVie

In the blink of an eye, tornadoes plow a 149 mile swath through Mississippi, deleting almost all in its path.  Volcanic ash plumes in Iceland halt European and transatlantic air traffic for almost a week, disrupting the economy and countless lives.  These energetic assertions in the body of our Earth once again awaken us to the dramatic shifts infusing our lives and our world.  And with Mercury still Retrograde in Taurus, the looming question becomes what do we really value?  How long do we intend to hang on to the crumbled remnants of what once seemed important?

Recently, in the midst of packing for a long-awaited trip to Israel, my brother-in-law's stress test mandated an unexpected angiogram and the insertion of stents for blockages.  Was my sister's focus on the cancelled trip?  Not a bit!  Her response was one of concern and gratitude for the recovery of her loved one.  For, our real security and fulfillment lies in the recesses of our hearts and the evolution of our consciousness.

So May 1 begins on an optimistic note, with expansive aspects from the Moon to Jupiter, encouraging us to celebrate life and dance around that Maypole.  Then the Moon in Capricorn on the next few days brings us back to more decorum (my Mother loved that word) as aspects to Pluto and Mercury help us better understand our own reactions.

Exact on May 3, Mercury's helpful trine to Pluto is extended by its retrograde and direct status, deepening our communications and our understanding of self and others for most of May.  This combination is particularly useful for digging up information and persuading others to see your point.

Do we want to fight or focus our excess energy into more productive pursuits on May 4 when the Sun squares Mars and drives are revved up?  With all the loose ends still dangling, sarcastic sparring is pretty far down on my list of preferences.

While the Moon in Aquarius should cool tempers on May 5 and 6, new ideas may be met with resistance and irritability from Mercury, Mars and the Sun, so give the old guard a little time and space to process.

Along with this heightened energy, there are lots of opportunities for money, romance, and great social interaction during the first half of May, as Venus sextiles Mars, exact on May 7.  So curl your eyelashes, shine your shoes and your résumés, and get on out there.

The Moon in Pisces on May 8 and 9 until 5:30 pm brings up a sentimental nature quite apropos to Mother's Day.  The diversity of aspects can also lead us through a range of emotions, with the Moon opposing practical Saturn just in time to settle the Brunch bill.  In the late afternoon, as the Moon conjuncts Uranus, stimulating surprises may be in store for those open to the unusual.

The instinct to move forward is strong with the Moon in Aries on May 10 and 11, but aspects from Pluto and the Nodes counsel us to tame our impulses on the 10th and take our cues from the tasks around us.  Besides, May 11 gives us green lights throughout the day, culminating in Mercury's direct movement at 6:22 pm.  With the winged messenger still in cautious Taurus, we can gradually begin to actualize the projects and plans we've been researching since mid-April.

"Left a good job in the city

Workin' for the man ev'ry night and day

And I never lost one minute of sleepin'

Worryin' 'bout the way things might have been

Big wheel keep on turnin'

Proud Mary keep on burnin'

Rollin', rollin', rollin' on the river

Rollin', rollin', rollin' on the river."

      - John Fogerty

The New Moon in Taurus on May 13 usually highlights our desires for financial security, comfort, and sensual and material enjoyment.  This year, however, squares to Mars and Neptune expand our definitions of fulfillment according to transforming personal values in a changing world.  Security for its own sake has become a moot point and unlikely in this unstable climate.  Real contentment goes beyond our five senses to a quality of life and well-being that emanates from our depth of self and its infinite connection.  Although inspiration may tempt us to jump into the ethers, it is the wise integration of spirit and matter step by step that leads us to the miraculous abundance of life on Earth.  So what is your own vision for "rollin' on the river?"

The Moon in Gemini from May 14 to 01:47 pm on May 16 livens up our interactions and makes for interesting and effective networking.  Squares to Saturn and Uranus on the 16th could leave us wondering where the unexpected may lead us.  However, in the afternoon Lady Luna's move into Cancer and her alliance with Mercury produce easy communications and a general sense of mutual understanding.  With the major changes coming up in the next few months, this feeling of mutuality and community will be greatly appreciated.

"The wheels on the bus go round and round,

Round and round,

Round and round.

The wheels on the bus go round and round,

All through the town."

Even as Mercury begins his Retrograde  trek from Apr 17 to May 11, jamming the paper in our printers and rearranging our formatting, daily life on earth still urges us to try to maintain the mundane assembly line of functionality.  At least the U.S. tax deadline is past, except for those of us who have opted for extensions.  The backtracking movement in Taurus can require extra patience, especially in communications or financial matters requiring flexibility.  On the plus side, this realistic messenger can put us back in touch with some of the practical aspects we've been missing and the chance to improve efficiency.

Fortunately, Venus and Jupiter collaborate as resident party planners and matchmakers extraordinaire from Apr 14 through 21, exact on Apr 17, skillfully executing opportunities for love and abundance.  So be on the lookout for the opening doors and be ready to step through.

"Sweet dreams are made of this

Who am I to disagree?

I travel the world

And the seven seas

Everybody's looking for something."

     -Annie Lennox/David Allan Stewart

Our sweetest dreams feel close at hand on Apr 18, as the Sun sextiles imaginative Neptune and inspires us to reach for our creative visions.

Then the Moon in Cancer on Apr 19 to 11:42 am on Apr 21 runs us through our emotional paces.  Staying focused in the midst of deep feelings, especially on the 19th, brings us a greater sense of personal well-being from which to operate.

On Apr 20, the Sun shifts into earthy Taurus until May 20, enhancing the physical senses and our desire to enjoy our comfort and the tactile pleasures of life.  Then, on the other end of the spectrum, Chiron shifts into Pisces for the first time since the 1960s.  Once again, this wounded healer offers an opportunity to bridge our transcendent spirit with a new paradigm of everyday life on our planet.  This process, no simple task, will continue through Feb 2019.  As a sign of hope for this spiritually ambitious goal, the Sun and Chiron harmonize in sextile also on the 20th to commit to the embodiment of Heaven on Earth.

The Moon's entrance into royal Leo from midday Apr 21 to 2:25 pm on Apr 23 enhances our self-image and builds confidence.  As such, her conjunction to Mars on Earth Day, the 22nd can recharge our desire to really push forward, despite conservative protests from the Taurean Sun and Mercury.  Perhaps a dose of planning and irresistible Leo charm can soothe reservations and tame the resistance.

"But it was just my imagination

running away with me.

It was just my imagination

running away with me..."

        -Norman Whitfield/Barrett Strong

The romantic world of Venus square Neptune on Apr 23 can surely enable us to see the highest possibility in circumstances and in people.  It's fine to note and briefly bask in the reverie; however, to avoid foolhardy decisions, wait for landing and decompression before opening the shuttle door.

Late on Apr 23 and into Apr 24 Venus in earthy Taurus combines with Uranus and with Saturn to magnetize stimulating relationships and resources with long-term potential into our lives.  With Lady Luna in Virgo also at this time, our good judgment assures successful connections.

Variety is the spice of life when Venus moves into Gemini from Apr 25 to May 19.  Sociability and diversified communications keep things lively.  Venus also squares Chiron, highlighting our ambivalence between covering lots of surface territory and maintaining compassionate connections.  Then Mercury Retrograde squares Mars and adds to the static, tempting us to voice our impatience before vetting our thoughts.  This nervous energy is better utilized in a controlled manner with more than a touch of diplomacy to successfully make your point.  Just at the right time, on the same day, the powerful Sun/Pluto trine quiets all the useless chatter and heads us in the direction of productive change and real progress.

No matter what our preferences, one can't help but notice the opinionated extremes that pollute our politics, disrupt our economy, and even fill our television talk shows.  Well, the fourth of five current oppositions of conservative Saturn to rebellious Uranus on Apr 26 ripples much more extensively than a one- day event.  While daring Uranus cries "out with the old," often including the baby in the bathwater, his unconventional perspective is creatively brilliant. And, although Old Man Saturn can get stuck in the cement of status quo, his ability to create workable form is superb.  In truth, these seemingly paradoxical views are both essential to the productive healing and evolution of our ailing world.  How interesting that the last time these two potentates were in a series of oppositions was in the breakthrough turbulent 1960s.  For those of us who were there at the time and for those who missed it, perhaps this is our opportunity to participate in a global future that includes both perspectives for the good of the whole.

Just the phrase "Full Moon in Scorpio" evokes theatrical images of mystery, intensity and a world unknown and too dark to see. So that's the movie scenario of the Full Moon on Apr 28 that could easily play on our fears, if we didn't know better.  A Full Moon usually brings to the surface much that's been hidden or buried.  As the Sun conjuncts Mercury in Taurus, it's time to deal with situations or thinking that's been stuck far too long, especially regarding finances and security issues.  With Mars in square to the Sun/Moon opposition, we can approach the challenge defensively or use it to face our moldy old fears and bring them into the light of day.

When the Moon in Scorpio trines Jupiter and Uranus on Apr 29, our expectations for the future ease up and solutions appear more probable.  That evening, a square to Neptune may waiver our confidence, but stalwart Saturn steps in to reconfirm our strengthening foundation.

The Moon in Sagittarius zooms in late on the 29th and 30th, reviving our optimism and renewing our commitment to a brighter future.

"We are making the historic transition from being passive observers to the dance of nature to becoming choreographers of the dance of nature, with the ability to manipulate life, matter, and intelligence.  With this awesome power, however, comes great responsibility, to ensure that the fruits of our efforts are used wisely and for the benefit of all humanity...The choice is ours.  This is the legacy of the generation now alive.  This is our destiny."

April 2010 - Part I

"Somewhere, right at the bottom of one's own being, one generally does know where one should go and what one should do. But there are times when the clown we call "I" behaves in such a distracting fashion that the inner voice cannot make its presence felt."

                       - Carl G. Jung

It is especially during times of change like the current one that our human ego, out of its depth and grasping for control, attempts to drown out our ever-present, reassuring, knowing sense. And yet, it is also during these same times that the sound of our subtle inner radar can steadily intensify as we acknowledge its existence on faith.

When Mercury sextiles Chiron on Apr 1, the ability to communicate concepts that bridge divisions is nobody's April fool.  On Apr 2, Mercury follows Venus and enters Taurus until June 10, turning our thoughts to finance and our more earthy needs. Although the practical considerations can be helpful, we might also be mindful of any bull-headed stubbornness, especially with Mercury going Retrograde on Apr 17.

The battle of the sexes and conflicts over finances are possible on Apr 3 when Venus squares Mars.  But, positive aspects between the Moon and Sun should keep situations reasonable.

Late on Apr 4 and for days around it, Venus trines Pluto, bringing the prospect of financial and relationship rebirth within arm's reach. What a perfect metaphor for the portent of resurrection and abundance signified by the Easter Holiday.  This promise of reward and ultimate fulfillment is particularly potent as this year Easter coincides with the week of Passover, merging us all in the power of our true Oneness.

To keep projects moving forward, do try a little diplomacy on Apr 5, as opinions can get edgy when Mercury squares Mars.

Apr 6 is a busy day on our astrological calendar.  Starting out with the Moon square the Sun, we can feel the pull between our impulsive nature and our sense of responsibility. To sort that out, the Moon conjuncts the North Node and we can see how fulfilling an organized plan can feel to us.  Then, Mercury trines Pluto, helping us to chart a more successful course for economic and material solutions.  Also on Apr 6, Pluto begins his lumbering retrograde movement until Sept 13.  During this time, we get to reassess the issues and changes presented to us since last December for deeper understanding.

Get out your seam rippers, paper shredders, diet articles, and a lot of big trash bags.  From Apr 7 until Jul 21, Saturn revisits Virgo, imploring us to clean up those loose ends still left dangling regarding our health, work habits, and daily patterns. What areas were predominant from September 2007 to late October 2009 that still need resolution?  If we missed something then, Saturn in Virgo as the ultimate maintenance supervisor will be certain to get our current attention.  So take advantage of his expert micromanagement.

The Moon in Aquarius on Apr 8 and 9 encourages us to explore the outer realms of our consciousness and our human potential. With the Moon conjunct Neptune on Apr 9, we're particularly inspired to express our creative and spiritual sides. From the evening of Apr 9 to the morning of Apr 12, the Moon in compassionate Pisces continues the flow of sensitivity and imagination, urging us to follow our dreams and perhaps help fulfill the dreams of others.

Events speed up on Apr 12 and13 as the independent Moon in Aries sets a faster pace. On the evening of Apr 12, we could run into inner or outer obstacles as Pluto suggests that we look more deeply before leaping ahead.  All's well that ends well, though, as the Moon and Mars get us back on track. At the end of this lunar month on Apr 13, Venus harmonizes with the Nodes of the Moon drawing compatible circumstances and opportunities to support our next step.

No matter what cycle our individual lives and world are in, the New Moon in Aries presents a chance for new beginnings for both the month and the year.  So, on Apr 14, this first sign of the zodiac energizes and beckons us to renew our lives.  What goals do we want to carry forward and can we release our need to achieve them in the same old way?  Aries represents the pioneer path-finder, supported by courage and trust that a better way is close at hand.  With the Moon sextile Neptune and Chiron, we're also infused with an extra measure of intuitive knowing that serves as our personal GPS along the way.

The Moon in Taurus from the evening of Apr 14 through Apr 16 should help to ground our lofty New Moon aspirations into practical applications.  Early on the 15th, Mars in Leo may balk at the restraint, but the next two days should be enjoyably productive.  As the Moon cheerfully socializes with Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, and Uranus, our own experiences should happily follow suit.

"Each time we drop our masks and meet heart-to-heart...Each time we are able to remain open to suffering, despite our fear and defensiveness, we sense a love in us which becomes increasingly unconditional...Awakening from our sense of separateness is what we are called to do in all things."

January 2010 - Part II

"The beat goes on, the beat goes on

Drums keep pounding a rhythm to the brain

La de da de de, la de da de da."

               Sonny Bono

In the wake of the Jan 15 New Moon Solar Eclipse and Mercury straightened up and flying right, the second half of January hints at a tad more continuity in our search for sanity in a world gone awry.

We're reminded of the ongoing retrograde action of Mars, as his opposition to the Moon on Jan 16 can stir up a frustrated warrior theme if the pace feels too slow.  Since Mars will remain in this introverted state until Mar 10, we'd best focus on channeling this energy into physical activities and creative research.

"If you're going to San Francisco

Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair..."

John Phillips- The Mamas and the Papas

Get ready to resurrect your bell bottoms and lava lamps when expansive Jupiter moves into sensitive Pisces from Jan 17 until June 6. In the midst of our tumultuously changing world, the visions of compassion, healing, and generosity evoked by this gentle giant will be most welcomed.  A renaissance of the arts, music, and spirituality can also be quite soothing to our jaded psyches.   This Good Samaritan encourages us to express our feelings for one another and act accordingly. In the same instance, avoid the rose colored glasses and stay grounded, lest these mutable waters carry us too far into the regions of excess and illusion.  Then, when the Moon and Jupiter conjunct on Jan 18, our emotions can deepen this emerging understanding of true devotion and service.

Objectivity enters the mix as Venus dresses in Spock-like Aquarian attire from Jan 18 to Feb 11.  Friendships and relationships of like-mind may come to the forefront.  This Venus loves the ease of communication networks like Twitter and Facebook.  Adding to the intellectual activity and collaborative efforts, the Sun also moves into innovative Aquarius from Jan 19 to Feb 18, chanting "out with the old and in with the new."

In keeping with this theme, the Moon conjuncts Uranus early on Jan 20 and the experience of breakthrough is imminent when unexpected realizations surface. Later that evening, when the Moon is challenged by Pluto and Saturn, we may need to take some time to assimilate the ramifications of our insights.  Yet, on Jan 21 an easy aspect of the Moon and Mars smoothes the way for personal expression and progress.

Resource meets reliability from Jan 20 through 24, exact on Jan 22, when magnetic Venus trines sober Saturn.  Stabilization and success in relationship, finance, and business matters are favored during this time.

The Moon in earthy Taurus on Jan 23 to early morning of Jan 25 plays out the debate between our desire for familiarity and comfort and the obvious need for a new world view.  Positive aspects help to promote change, yet many may still hold tight to the past.  This quandary will present itself throughout 2010, as we work through the resistance within and without ourselves.  Fortunately, the Sun trines Saturn on Jan 24 and brings a greater sense of balance and increased stability and support.

The sociable Moon in Gemini on Jan 25 and 26 turns on the inclination to gather information and flit from one chat to another.  Although the data can be helpful, it's possible to scatter oneself and spread too thin.

"You like potato and I like potahto,

You like tomato and I like tomahto;

Potato, potahto,

Tomato, tomahto.

Let's call the whole thing off!"

   George Gershwin/Ira Gershwin

When Venus in detached Aquarius opposes Mars in fiery Leo on Jan 27, the push/pull of contrary points of view, even in our own minds, is apparent.  This magnetic attraction/repulsion can challenge our relationships and our economics, calling for integration into a larger context.

On Jan 27 and 28, the Moon home in Cancer, conjunct the South Node, sensitizes that soft spot in each of us that yearns for the warmth and safety of fairy tale home.  With Pluto trine Vesta on Jan 28, we have the opportunity personally and politically to actually enact those measures that do support our well-being.

The road can get a little rough on Jan 29 when the independent Aquarian Sun opposes the Leonine pride of Mars, picking up where Venus left off a few days ago.  Remember, while Mars is still retrograde, his frustrated assertive energy can bring up repressed, resentful anger, foreshadowing tomorrow's Full Moon.  (So, how's that for a lead in?)

The Jan 30 Full Moon would make a great Super Bowl commercial for anger management classes and mediation.  Here we have the dark side of the Full Moon.  The Sun and Venus in cool, calm Aquarius portray the voice of self-righteous "reason" that refuses to acknowledge the impact of personal emotional trauma. In the red trunks, we have the Moon and Mars, stewing in Leo resentment at long term injustice and suppression.  Do they duke it out and continue the same old futile paradigm?  Or, could there be higher aspects of our selves that are now calling to take charge?  Perhaps the innovative Aquarian team could hold a non-judgmental field expansive enough to encompass the unique genius of all involved.  And what a gift the courageous Leo duo could provide in the creative expression of our hearts' loving desires.  Each one of us has all that we need to contribute our one-of-a-kind endowment to our world. And so, it is really through the collaborative union of our diversity that our full potential can be realized.

Another exact Saturn/Pluto square on Jan 31 makes its presence known like a drop in barometric pressure.  We can feel that somewhere out there forces of nature are gathering to induce powerful change.   Once again, the wake-up call sounds to reassess our individual, economic, and global goals and the means we're using to achieve them.  Although outer circumstances may appear to challenge our self worth, our real power can only come from a deeper connection to a greater reality.  As we said earlier, "out with the old and in with the new" -  with Faith in a road that unfolds before us.

January 2010 - Part I

"Take it easy,

Take it easy.

Don't let the sound of your own wheels

Drive you crazy"

        Jackson Browne/Glenn Frey

Usually, January signals jumping into a New Year with resolutions flying.  However, with Mercury Retrograde until Jan 15, and Mars Retrograde until March 10, the prudent ones among us will heed those Eagles lyrics and use this time to research, reconsider, and prime all surfaces for the Rockin' & Rolling revolution ahead.

With Saturn and Pluto continuing to square off throughout the year, we can be certain that the phrase "balance of power" will take on new meaning, individually and globally. Some of our most productive learning politically and economically is in the arenas of accountability, personal responsibility, and transparency that goes beyond fancy lingerie.  Are we ready to commit to those choices that foster a truly healthy and sustainable world?  Ready or not, that time has come.

We may feel somwhat nostalgic on Jan 1 with the Moon in Cancer conjunct the South Node pointing out that comfortable couch that calls to us.  But, from later that night to the evening of Jan 3, the Moon in Leo shakes off our complacency and has us renewing our New Year's playfulness throughout the weekend.

Mercury reminds us of his retrograde presence on Jan 4 as he conjuncts the Sun, prompting us to reflect on our goals and the repetitive mental patterns that can either sabotage or support them.  Still moving in reverse, Mercury backs into Venus on Jan 5, highlighting the beliefs that affect both our finances and our relationships.  Then on Jan 6, the Moon in Libra activates that challenging Saturn/Pluto aspect, continuing our self-assessment.   In all cases, if you don't like what you're seeing, then push option two to change your mind.

The Moon in potent Scorpio from Jan 8 to morning of Jan 10 may get a bit demanding on the 9th, yet a sweet assist from Venus and the Sun smooths the bumps and leaves us smiling.

"There's a party goin' on right here

A celebration to last throughout the years

So bring your good times, and your laughter too

We gonna celebrate your party with you."

Ronald Nathan Bell/Dennis Ronald Thomas/Earl Toon

On Jan 11, as Venus and the Sun conjunct the North Node, join Kool and the Gang for networking, financial success, and enjoyment that carries forward for weeks.  Then on Jan 13, this magnetic Sun/Venus duo sextile Uranus, adding unexpected opportunities for rewards to the ambiance.  Still, with the Moon conjunct Pluto and square Saturn, I'd hold off on any spur of the moment Las Vegas weddings until the confetti clears.

Also on Jan 13, Saturn moves retrograde in Libra and will re-enter Virgo from April 6 to July 21, enlisting our help in deleting those loose ends that still dangle like unruly participles.  Although our chores may increase, the results can be well worth the effort.

The New Moon Solar Eclipse in Capricorn on Jan 15 marks a sense of karmic ordination in the continued reorganization of our resources and our processes.  With Venus conjunct the Sun, Moon, and North Node, far reaching change can be affected through the Grace of willingness.  At the same time, winged Mercury goes direct within a few degrees of Pluto squaring Saturn; so watch for signs that point to a greater sense of self respect and personal destiny  The not-so-subtle mile markers have been signaling us for a while. Depending on our openness to follow a higher purpose, these winds of change can swamp our vessel or fill our sails and shift us onto a surprisingly far better course.  The old mode of outer control shows signs of obvious decay, while our access to limitless inner power beckons lovingly.  Just reach out.

You like tomato and I like tomahto;

December 2009 - Part II

"What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters

compared to what lies within us."

Ralph Waldo Emerson

The spontaneous New Moon in Sagittarius on Dec 16 sends us on a search for meaning as we seek answers to ultimate philosophical questions. With the Moon square Uranus however, there may be unexpected twists and turns that have us wondering whether our earthly venture may actually be a sequel to a Monty Python production. Then the Moon sextiles Chiron, Jupiter, and Neptune, confirming our belief in a higher set of principles and opportunities to guide us through unexplored territory. Later that evening, the Moon lands in Capricorn and conjuncts Pluto, suggesting that we set aside theory and focus on manifesting.

We can hear Stephen Stills singing "Love the one you're with" when Venus trines Mars on Dec 17 and their fire signs definitely heat things up. Good for romance and finance, it's a great time to make connections.

Getting down to business pays off on Dec 18 when the Moon in Capricorn conjuncts Mercury and the North Node, then sextiles Uranus to open new pathways. With the upcoming Retrogrades of Mars on Dec 20 and Mercury on Dec 26, organization at this time can save a lot of backtracking later.

As Venus sextiles Chiron on Dec 19, the Magi would have us expecting Prince Charming to appear, or at least a financial windfall. Later that evening, when Venus squares tricky Uranus, be open to something new, but don't let the good fortune flow right through your fingers.

Mars in Leo goes Retrograde on Dec 20 until March 10, 2010. Because of this protracted journey, our fearless warrior gets to remain in courageous Leo for eight months. For those on an ego trip, the retro period can be fraught with fruitless tirades and frustration. For the wiser among us, the time is best spent re-evaluating our goals and our methods to attain them. How do we handle our ambitions and the impulse to push forward? Can we modify our behavior to better match our higher self and fulfill our creative heart's desires? With a bit of patience and willingness to internalize this potent transformative energy, we'll be ready, willing, and able to step into rewarding action in the Spring of 2010.

Also on Dec 20, delightful Venus sextiles benevolent Jupiter and opportunities generate newfound optimism. Enjoy the well-earned goodies.

Dec 21, the Winter Solstice brings a wealth of uplifting aspects. Venus continues bestowing her blessings as she sextiles Neptune, stimulating creative and romantic reveries. Next, Jupiter conjuncts spiritual Neptune for the third and final time, infusing us with sensitivity to higher dimensions and the truth of our oneness with all that exists. With the Moon in Aquarius also conjunct Chiron, Neptune, and Jupiter, our intuitive expansion is heightened as we breathe in newly envisioned possibilities. Then the Sun grounds our dreams as he dons the formal attire of Capricorn until Jan 20 to help create a practical matrix for their expression.

When Mercury conjuncts the North Node in Capricorn on Dec 23, our ability to concentrate on what is useful enables us to navigate the circumstances around us in the most proficient way.

The Sun conjunct mighty Pluto on Dec 24 is not to be taken lightly, just like the need for structural change in most of our worldly institutions. With the Moon squaring Pluto and the Sun, while opposing Saturn, it will take a diplomatic X-man to keep emotional reactions from taking over. Fear and power struggles can bring on open conflict. Yet the airing of undermining anger or resentment can also bring light and healing to that which has been festering in the dark.

Venus moves into Capricorn on Christmas Day, Dec 25 until Jan 18, raising the likelihood of a more sober holiday celebration. Venus in Capricorn prefers tradition to innovation, so no Tofurkey roasts or chipotle eggnogs are likely this year. With the Sun square Saturn, obligatory gatherings can become tiresome and we may feel defensive. Being open to look within, we may discover that much of the heaviness is really a reflection of our own self-judgment ready to be lifted. Right on time, the Moon trines Mars in the evening and perspective shifts as our spirits are lifted and our outlook is brightened.

The notorious Mercury Retrograde in Capricorn begins on Dec 26 until Jan 15, 2010. The influence of earthy Capricorn gives a more utilitarian spin to this usually disorienting jaunt. It's certainly an ideal time to evaluate the past year and reorganize to accommodate next year's goals. However, it's still wise to keep all of the usual caveats in mind, especially with Retrograde Mars adding his own detours to our journey. With this duo both moving backwards, it could easily resemble a sketch from Saturday Night Live. So keep assumptions to a minimum and double and triple check all reservations and important communications.

Hopefully we've all been judicious in our Holiday spending of time and money. With Venus conjunct Pluto and square Saturn on Dec 28 and 29, it's time to balance our books and assess how we measure our self worth - financially, emotionally, and spiritually. If we come up short on the satisfaction meter, this retrograde period is ideal for establishing a revamped foundation that supports us in more valid and fulfilling ways.

2009 goes out with a second Full Moon this month on Dec 31, this one a Super Moon (closest to Earth) Lunar Eclipse, which magnifies its gravitational effect on you know who - us! The Cancer Moon's opposition to the Sun and Venus, along with a square to Saturn also intensifies the emotional tides that accompany it. We could just throw our hands up whining and complaining. But, with a lineup in Capricorn, we've got all the tools we need to man up and respond like the spiritual adults we are meant to be. Imagine how amazingly gratifying that would feel! Plus, with Uranus in supportive aspect to the North Node, we are assured that our sincere efforts will be met with rewarding resources from a grateful world in the midst of revolutionary change.

December 2009 – Part I

“I was alone, I took a ride,

I didn’t know what I would find there.

Another road where maybe I

could see another kind of mind there.”

Paul McCartney/John Lennon

This December can lead us through a gamut of feelings from philosophical and inspirational to determination to delete old patterns and move into new relationship with self and others.

Visions of sugarplums start early in the month on Dec 1st, when Mercury sextiles Neptune and hopeful aspirations are easy to communicate. Then, Uranus moves direct and the shuttle takes off to parts unknown, liberating us in unexpected ways for months to come. Next Venus joins the anti-prohibition movement as she shifts into freedom-loving Sagittarius, waving the banner for adventure until Dec 25th.

On Dec 2nd, the Full Moon in Gemini is set on gathering additional opinions and information, despite the urgings of the Sun in Sagittarius to just do it now. As the deluge of data mounts, so can the impatience of the Sun. Fortunately, Saturn in Libra, the ultimate mediator, is available to sort through all the particulars to help create a foundation that supports an inclusive perspective for our next steps. Meanwhile, additional lunar aspects to Mars, Jupiter, Chiron and Uranus keep the emotional conveyor belt moving along to a surprising outcome.

When Venus sextiles Saturn on Dec 4th, setting comfortable boundaries in relationships can go really smoothly, so take advantage of the silicone surface. Business affairs are also favored and the results can be quite fulfilling.

If you like to plan carefully, you’re going to love Mercury’s stay in Capricorn from Dec 5th to Feb 10th. Pie in the sky need not apply for this winged messenger. He’s seeking practical applications for successful outcomes.

Easy aspects from the Moon to the Sun on Dec 6th affirm the positive Sagittarian outlook for an enjoyable day.

On Dec 7th, Mercury conjuncts Pluto in the early hours, calling us to dig down into our unconscious and seek answers to ultimate questions. With Saturn square Pluto all month and into 2010, we’re being challenged to reach a greater level of authenticity and personal power (not control or blame) in all of our relationships. And the only way we can accomplish this is through our willingness to face ourselves and the truth of our deeper motivations. As we go forward into next year, this principle will apply to many circumstances individually and globally.

In the afternoon of the 7th, rays of optimism and hope predominate as Jupiter conjuncts Chiron and alternate paths are clear. Then at 9:36 that night Mercury’s square to Saturn can feel weighty, so we’d best use the energy to keep our thoughts focused on process rather than fear.

Communal or artistic “families” can spontaneously form as the Sun conjuncts Cupido and those of like spirit are drawn together on Dec 8th. Speaking of family, this also marks the Sagittarian birthday of my sister, Mimi.

Things can get a little rocky when the Moon opposes Uranus and later squares Pluto on Dec 9th, bringing up issues that can’t stay repressed any longer. Nevertheless, by looking at the aspects for the coming year, the more we acknowledge, the easier the inevitable changes will be.

When the Sun trines Mars on Dec 10th a rush of strength and vigor is available to cheer us on and keep us motivated.

The Chanukah Festival of Lights, signifying miracles, runs from sunset Dec 11th through Dec 19th. Although the harmonious Moon in Libra begins the celebration, the Moon in Scorpio on Dec 12th and 13th reflects the profound transformational nature of both the holiday and the times in which we live.

Dec 14th ushers in the Moon in Sagittarius for a three-day let’s-have-a-party time. With the Sun square Uranus in the morning, it’s tempting to ignore all the rules and break free. Revolution can be pretty exhilarating as long as you mind the traffic lights and stop signs. Later in the day, the Sun sextiles expansive Jupiter and the real festivities begin. Oh, did I mention that today is my daughter Mindy’s birthday? It’s a good thing that I have plenty of Sag in my own chart, as I’m surrounded by that spirited independent sign.

Mid-month on Dec 15th the Sun sextiles luminous Neptune, enhancing artistic creativity and Divine knowing. May we continue to carry this radiance in our hearts, lighting our way to a truly spiritual Holiday Season that transcends even the Retrogrades to come.

Let Light descend on Earth.”

November 2009 – Part II

“The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious.  It is the fundamental emotion which stands at the cradle of true art and true science.  Whosoever does not know it and can no longer wonder, no longer marvel, is as good as dead, and his eyes are dimmed.”

       Albert Einstein

Get your gear and prepare to swim in the complex waters of the mysterious New Moon in Scorpio on Nov 16th.  With the Moon square Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune, it can be a bit unnerving peering into the murky depths and wondering what awaits us.  Yet, as our eyes accustom to the unfamiliar, we are reminded of the chrysalis state that foretells our inevitable metamorphosis, as long as we refrain from overextending.  Innovative sparks from the Moon/Uranus trine can provide a stimulating departure from the usual with interesting options that promote change.  For certainly the turning point in which we find ourselves and our world implores us to undim our vision and reclaim our power to transform personally and globally.

Plans and practical details for yesterday’s ideals can be drawn up with ease on Nov 17th when Mercury sextiles Saturn and concepts can become reality.

The Moon in Sagittarius from the early hours of Nov 17th through morning on Nov 19th keeps our sights set high and our attitude confident.

The Newlywed Game is in big trouble on Nov 19th as Ms Venus in Scorpio squares off with Mr. Mars in Leo.  Relationship dynamics may turn into a conflict of wills and the show could get renamed “The Battle of the Egos”.  Then the Moon moves into Capricorn until the night of Nov 21st, blunting the edge of challenge and advising us to straighten up and get back to the business at hand.

“And she’ll have fun, fun, fun ‘til her daddy takes her T-bird away.”

      Brian Wilson/Mike Love

The Sun in Sagittarius from late on Nov 21st until Dec 21st campaigns for a switch to holiday scenery and puts us in the mood for fun, greater faith and hope for the future.  With the Moon in Aquarius until the morning of Nov 24th, expansion prevails and portals to higher dimensions seem closer than ever.  Aspects of the Moon to Venus and Jupiter, while Venus squares Jupiter are like a gourmet Almond Joy Cheesecake deluxe, topped with a layer of rich chocolate ganache – wonderfully luscious and extravagant while leading to sugar intoxication and a month of exercise and diet.  Even so, I just may have to bake that one.  It’s all a matter of weighing your options and deciding what’s worthwhile.

Reason returns on Nov 24th as the Sun sextiles Saturn and practical considerations produce results.  Late in the day, however, the Moon in Pisces squares the Sun and Venus squares Chiron, weakening our resolve and again tempting us with the indulgences of life.

Relationships and resources align with both our personal goals and the blueprint emerging for a renewed society as Venus harmonizes with the Nodes on Nov 25th.  Later, on a streak of good timing Venus brings a welcome change of pace and unexpected opportunities when she trines Uranus that evening.

The US Thanksgiving celebration on Nov 26th produces plenty of reason for gratitude.  Ideas, conversations and both playful and productive banter resound throughout the day as Mercury trines Mars. Then, that evening romantic imagination, spiritual reverie or too much holiday cheer can take over when Venus squares Neptune.  Enjoy the creative fancy and reassess when the dreaminess settles.

The adventurous Aries Moon on Nov 27th to early morn on Nov 29th brings the spirit of enthusiasm and optimism to our weekend.  Then, the Moon settles into comfortable Taurus and trines Pluto, deepening and enriching emotional experiences.  Still on Nov 29th, interesting conversation expands possibilities and smoothes any kind of personal or business negotiations when Mercury sextiles Jupiter.

November kicks up his heels on the last day of his tenure, Nov 30th, as Mercury squares Uranus.  Brilliant ideas can stimulate or irritate as thoughts erupt at racetrack speed and nervous energy sizzles through the air.  This can be a great time for brainstorming; but unplug the power cord and make sure you’re grounded before you attempt a trial run, especially with the December Retrogrades coming up.

               November 2009 – Part I

“I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh lord
I’ve been waiting for this moment, all my life, oh lord.
Can you feel it coming in the air tonight, oh lord, oh lord.”

                                   Phil Collins

As the light and awareness increase on our planet, so does the dissolution of all that resists this evolving resonance. The effects of Saturn square Pluto are increasingly tangible from early November, exact on Nov 15th and on into 2010. That which was never really authentic can no longer hide as it begins to destabilize, making way for major social and economic reconstruction. The Sun squares Mars on Nov 1st, activating our desires and our egos – a challenging combo more suited to competing in a triathlon than diplomatic debates.

The Full Moon in security-oriented Taurus opposite the Sun in transformational Scorpio on Nov 2nd spells i-n-t-e-n-s-i-t-y, foreshadowing a showdown. While comfort-loving Taurus wants to preserve the past and the money in the mattress (better than in the stock market), determined Scorpio videos the deep cracks in the foundation, documenting the need for change. Jumping into the fray, Mars in Leo squares them both, adding fuel to the conflict and egging everyone on. Fortunately, greater minds than our egos prevail as Venus trines Neptune and the music of the spheres calms our animal pride and reminds us of our higher nature.

When Venus squares the Nodes on Nov 3rd, it’s easy to trip over emotional baggage we thought we had disposed of. Oh well, one more round of clearing out gives that much more room for the kind of relationships that can really meet us.

Neptune’s direct movement on Nov 4th gives us the go-ahead to act on our spiritual and creative principles, as long as we incorporate them into the concrete fiber of our visionary and humanitarian projects. Then ideas, communications and conversations flow with ease on Nov 5th, when the Sun and Mercury team up as the champions of Trivial Pursuit.

When the Moon in Cancer squares Saturn and opposes Pluto on Nov 6th, worldly or financial news can tip the scales and upset our perceived security – if we’re still mired in that old fairy tale.

It’s time to get out the seductive lingerie, garter belts, fishnets and whatever turns you on while Venus is in mysterious Scorpio from Nov 7th until Dec 1st. In addition to whetting our carnal appetite, this beguiling lady can also magnetize the financial resources and meaningful relationships we’ve been seeking.

Too good to be true may be the case as Mercury squares Jupiter on Nov 8th. While this can open the door to expansive opportunities, do double check your sources and keep your passwords to yourself.

Venus sextiles Pluto on Nov 9th, revealing additional resources and meaningful relationships. Although the Moon squares the Sun, highlighting a tug of war between control and self indulgence, the depth of the Venus/Pluto opportunity takes center stage with its transformational magic.

On Nov 10th, when Mercury squares Chiron we may well envision plans for a better world and greater integrity. At the same time, with the Sun square Jupiter, expectations may be over-inflated and will require a lot more step by step planning.

Whether we’re training for the “Jeopardy” marathon or brainstorming for a collaborative project, Mercury trine Uranus on Nov 11th sparks a bounty of brilliant ideas and concepts. Then as the winged Hermes harmonizes with the Nodes, personal meaning and business applications become evident. That evening, as Mercury squares Neptune and diffuses the edges, it’s time to chill out and put a hold on any further planning.

When the Sun squares Chiron on Nov 13th, we can feel the pull between wanting to save ourselves and wanting to save the world. And the point here is that neither of these options is necessary, as the real salvation is in a new inclusive model.

Just in time to fortify us before the convention-breaking aspects the next day, on Nov 14th the Sun and Uranus join forces with the Nodes to ensure us of an emerging future that promotes a paradigm of both independence and cooperation.

On Nov 15th, we experience the first of three tipping points of Saturn square Pluto between now and October 2010. This energy will express itself on our Earth through the financial, geological and social changes that have already begun to show themselves. At the same time, the Sun squares Neptune and attempts to distract the public through the media. Yet the weakness in our infrastructure will become even more evident. Going back is no longer an alternative, for we have seen too much that is out of balance for our heads to remain in the sand. It is up to us to decide that we no longer accept a world that encourages competition, scarcity and domination for the sake of the few. Over the coming year, we have the option to participate in the reshaping of our personal lives and our world. In the face of uncertainty, we may choose to stretch beyond our fear-based limitations, let our voices be heard and join in community to create a matrix powered by fairness and integrity. By uniting in our commonality, our actions may then bring a renewed sense of empowerment and hope individually and globally.

“There’s nothing you can do that can’t be done.
Nothing you can sing that can’t be sung.
Nothing you can say but you can learn how to play the game
It’s easy.”

October 2009 – Part II

“Someone is waiting just for you
Spinning wheel is spinning true
Drop all your troubles, by the river side
Ride a painted pony
Let the spinning wheel fly”
.. David Clayton Thomas- Blood, Sweat and Tears

Get ready to launch your interstellar rockets, progressive business ideas and the new you during the second half of October, minding the usual minor glitches along the way.

The Moon’s trine to Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune on Oct 17th and the New Moon in Libra on Oct 18th immerse us in their visionary messages of alliance with a greater spiritual collective for a future that benefits all. The essence of the Libran communication is the balance between self and others. And who among us couldn’t use a bit of relationship adjustment in our lives? With the Sun, Moon, Mercury and Venus all in this harmony seeking sign, the wind beneath our wings gently carries us to an expanded vantage point and shows us the many sides to any issue.

At the same time, the Sun squares the Nodes, reminding us of those unexpected air pockets that get our attention just as we’re cruising along. Where do family ties or childhood insecurities still push our emotional buttons? Which attachments ring the “co-dependent” bell and drain us? Is it appropriate or is it guilt? When something comes from right action, we’re enlivened even when we expend a lot of energy. With the North Node in Capricorn, we’re encouraged to cultivate self reliance and worldly maturity. Our inner power is maintained while supporting healthy boundaries and respect for all parties.

As Saturn enters Libra later this month, this principle of equality, fairness and personal integrity will be expressing itself throughout our earthly experiences for the next three years.

Great ideas and welcomed communications keep our brains humming when Mercury trines Jupiter from Oct 19th – 22nd, exact on the 20th. Take advantage of this mental pipeline and you may solve a lot more than those unfinished Sudoku puzzles. Then with Venus conjunct Pallas on Oct 21st, a rush of artistic creativity might even get you a coveted place on Project Runway.

When Mercury trines Chiron on Oct 23rd, it’s easier to communicate humanitarian and futuristic concepts to the greater public. Then everything intensifies when the Sun plunges into penetrating Scorpio from Oct 23rd to Nov 21st. Things that are working can do really well and those that are half-hearted may fall away. As the Scorpio signature builds into November the resources and relationships that truly suit us will take precedence.

On Oct 24th, the powerful transformation of the Sun trine Pluto enables dramatic change like a laser on wrinkles. This is a time to focus on reformation and renewal for lasting satisfaction. Then Mercury trines Neptune, sweetening the pot and stimulating our sensitivity to the subtler senses in spiritual, intuitive and artistic realms.

Our desire to be useful and willingness to take action fits right in with the world’s search for our unique talents as the Moon conjuncts the North Node on Oct 25th. Then Mercury squares the Nodes, mandating that we acknowledge and cool down our emotional hot spots in order to claim our rightful places that await us.

“Happy days are here again
The skies above are clear again
So let’s sing a song of cheer again
Happy days are here again.”

Milton Ager/Jack Yellen

So make good use of this window of opportunity. Get out your best clothes, update your LinkedIn profile and prepare to receive the mentality of abundance that predominates from Oct 26th -31st. The luminescent Moon in Aquarius radiates unexpected possibility on Oct 26th and 27th. Her trine to Venus on the 26th sets the stage for an extravaganza of optimism leading to her conjunction of Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune that infuses us with benevolence and hope on the 27th.

Mercury shifts from ambivalent Libra to incisive Scorpio from Oct 28th to Nov 15th. This no-nonsense messenger is just the one to get to the bottom of unclear issues and unanswered questions. Later, Mercury sextiles Pluto, further deepening our thoughts to solve any residual mysteries. Also on the 28th, Venus trines Jupiter, magnetizing resources, finance and romance and rekindling the celebratory mood.

Watch a tendency toward edginess when the Sun squares Mars on Oct 29th, pushing boundaries and evoking defensiveness and competition. Better to use this as motivation to exceed your own best record.

Saturn breathes a sigh of relief as he enters his exalted space in Libra on Oct 29th until October 2012 (with a brief foray back into Virgo from Apr 6th to Jul 21st, 2010). Since September 2007, responsible Saturn in Virgo has been toiling like a Dickens bookkeeper, leaving no entry in question and all sums reconciled. This has been the time to secure foundational groundwork for our lives by cleaning up our daily routines, work habits and attention to our health.

With this physical structure in place, or at least in process, we can now get about the Libran business of more respectable functioning in relationship. We move from analysis and discrimination to patience, cooperation and relatedness to others. Saturn in Libra offers the ability to accept opposites, both inside and outside of ourselves. It teaches the wisdom of inclusiveness, like the oneness of yin and yang. Through recognition of our own personal paradoxes, we are more receptive to non-judgmental interaction with others. For don’t we all secretly waiver between our desire for closeness and our need for independence? It is the combination of both that brings balance and real happiness. And so the sojourn of Saturn in Libra over the next three years will surely bring us opportunities to create greater integrity and equilibrium in our lives and our world.

Adding to the freedom march, Chiron goes direct in Aquarius on Oct 30th, encouraging the embodiment of our idealism into action.

Whatever costume you wear this Halloween, Oct 31st, be sure to dress for success. You may even want to lavish yourself in a ball gown and glass slippers as Venus trines Chiron, which the Magi call a Cinderella aspect! Don’t we all deserve a month finishing up with a Fairy Godmother, Prince or Princess Charming and a happy ending?

October 2009 – Part I

“Hey now you’re an All Star get your game on, go play
Hey now you’re a Rock Star get the show on, get paid
(And all that glitters is gold)
Only shooting stars break the mold”

Smash Mouth

October begins with a jump start on the wings of Mercury picking up speed as he shifts into direct motion. His collaborative meetup with assertive Mars adds emission-free fuel to communications and activities on Oct 1st. The Moon in compassionate Pisces on Oct 2nd is supported by Mars in Cancer and then kicks up the Uranus/Saturn opposition. Simply resist urges to play out the tug of war between independence and security and continue to integrate the best of both.

The Full Moon in Aries on Oct 4th is reminiscent of a Top Chef marathon. It has all the elements of innovative ideas, both competition and the need for teamwork, personal and professional growth and the expression of creative potential. The Moon in Aries encourages us to dare to be ourselves, while the Sun in Libra keeps it a class act that is sensitive to the needs of others. With Mercury sextile Mars and the Moon sextile Jupiter, our intellect and emotions are stimulated and satisfied, like chocolate ganache with a hint of jalapeno. Late in the day, Mercury opposes Uranus, as our bundt cake sticks to the pan, challenging our ingenuity. With Mars trine Uranus, our ability to adapt saves the day and the broken pieces of cake become the base for a delectable prize winning mousse creation.

The Moon in Taurus on Oct 5th has us seeking both comfort and greater emotional depth when she trines Pluto mid-afternoon. On Oct 6th, Saturn trines the North Node and the foundations we’ve been laying are noticed and appreciated. On Oct 7th, Mercury and the Moon follow Saturn’s lead to trine the North Node and practical collaborations can fill in the missing pieces.

Let’s get our priorities straight on Oct 8th as Mercury conjuncts Saturn. Instead of lamenting like Paul McCartney singing “Yesterday” and blaming ourselves or others for what’s been wrong, we’d best focus on clearing up the details and committing to a different way. That evening, as the Moon, Sun and Jupiter trine, we realize how much better we feel by taking a few simple steps.

Oct 9th takes us through an astrological whirlwind, true to the Gemini nature of the Moon until late evening. With Mars conjunct the South Node in Cancer and opposite the North Node in Capricorn, it’s easy to overreact, feeling insecure and defensive. Yet the real protection is in personal responsibility and remembering our inner locus of control. Early that evening, get out and try something different. With Venus opposite Uranus, things should be entertaining at the least. Though, you may want to be home by around 11 pm before the Moon in Cancer opposes Pluto and subconscious concerns can cloud perceptions. Fortunately, just before midnight, Mercury moves from critical Virgo to diplomatic Libra until Oct 28th and the desire for peace prevails.

Everything goes better with chocolate and the Sun trine Jupiter Oct 7th – 13th, exact on the 10th, should have that optimistic effect on life in general. Take care to remain open-minded while Mercury squares Pluto on the 10th and opinionated words can bring up resistance. Still, the combination of energies may enable us to clear up rooted issues.

The Moon in Cancer on Oct 11th squares the Sun and conjuncts the South Node and Mars, stimulating the emotional tides into visible activity. At the same time, support to the Moon from Uranus, Venus and Saturn keeps us afloat and enjoying the movement. Then, lovely Lady Venus collaborates with the Nodes, confirming a sense of well-being and personal confidence.

Okay, it’s time to don our All Star t-shirts on Oct 12th. First, Mars sextiles Saturn, giving practical steps and mapping directions leading us toward greater goals. Next Jupiter moves direct in Aquarius until Jan 18, 2010. The positive effects of this movement will gradually intensify throughout the month as beneficent Jupiter picks up steam. If you haven’t made those calls, drawn up the plans or reached out, now is the time to get it all going.

“Hey Venus Oh Venus
Make my wish come true”

Frankie Avalon/songwriter: Ed Marshall

Although she’s in pragmatic Virgo, Venus can still spread her magic on Oct 13th. Her conjunction to Grandfather Saturn may temper early party plans with practical considerations that pay off in the long run. With the Moon in Leo and playful Venus sextile manly Mars later in the day, romance and celebration are back on the agenda.

On Oct 14th, the Sun trines Chiron, building bridges based on fairness and equality to maintain our visionary ideals for the era to come. Also on the 14th, charming Venus comes home to Libra until Nov 7th. So happy to be in her aesthetically pleasing abode, her mission is to invite us all in and share that sense of beauty and serenity.

Then Pluto shows up on eHarmony on Oct 15th, squaring Venus and bringing up all those forgotten relationship issues around control, jealousy and manipulation that corrupt the best of online dating. See what needs to be changed to be neither victim nor perpetrator. This experience can be intense and the willingness to relinquish negative patterns can bring about profound transformation.

“Everybody was Kung Fu fighting
Those kids were fast as lightning
In fact it was a little bit fright’ning
But they did it with expert timing.”

Carl Douglas

With assertive Mars in fiery Leo from Oct 16th to June 7, 2010, there will be lots of sparks flying as the Kung Fu warrior in each of us chooses between heartfelt courage and the ego’s desire for recognition. There’s plenty of energy to creatively accomplish a greater good, if we so choose. On the evening of the 16th, a spiritual idealistic aura softens the fire as the Sun trines Neptune and higher dimensions make themselves known. Supported by this unique combination of aspects, this is a chance to direct our strength to accomplish for the sake of a better humanity and enriched living for us all.

September 2009 – Part II

“Hey, Hey
Did you ever think
There might be another way
To just feel better,
Just feel better about today”
Sister Hazel

We dive into the second half of September, moved by the Sept 15th Saturn/Uranus opposition highlighting inconsistencies and shifting our world toward a more hopeful future. The major social and economic changes of this time are reminiscent of the chaotic and exciting 1960s - breaking with the outdated conventions of the past, while reaching for truly progressive principles to support real reform.

Idealistic possibilities can uplift or filter our vision as Venus opposes Neptune and out come our rose colored glasses.

“Let me take you down,
‘cos I’m going to Strawberry Fields.
Nothing is real
And nothing to get hungabout.
Strawberry Fields forever.”
John Lennon

Then, on Sep 16th, artistic fantasy adds to the mystic fog of our emotions and seeks creative outlet and expansive experiences as Venus conjuncts the Moon and both oppose Neptune.

On Sept 17th, all the boat rocking starts to sound like the Baha Men singing “Who Let the Dogs Out”, as the Sun conjuncts Saturn and sets off the explosive opposition to Uranus. Fixed ideas can be challenged as Mercury also squares Pluto, so hold on to the railings and remain flexible. Will we break out or break through? The tides can go either way.

Late on the 17th, Mercury Retrogrades back into Virgo until Oct 9th. Here comes the clean up crew, aiming to keep pace with all the fallout. Back in his home sign, our winged Hermes is quite proficient at organizing, analyzing and reevaluating our methodologies, health, employment options and details in general - as long as we don’t get lost in the micro-complexities.

So here’s the anthem for the New Moon in Virgo on Sept 18th:
“Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strain)
Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes…”
David Bowie

With all the talk about flu shots, our scientists would probably do a lot more good to come up with inoculations that counter resistance to change. For this New Moon with the Sun, Moon, Mercury and Saturn in Virgo, all opposing Uranus, shines a spotlight on everything that needs revamping, consolidation and possibly elimination to create the right alchemy for our next steps. Just around sundown, as we enter the powerful energetic of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, the Moon trines the North Node and sextiles the South Node, clarifying which elements we’d best bring forward and promising aid and support for our mindful resolutions. With Retrograde Mercury coinciding with this portal, the opportunity for personal realization and integration with our true Self is imminent, as is the rewriting of our individual script of Destiny.

The construction of this foundation continues on Sept 19th, as Mercury harmonizes with the Nodes, encouraging transparent communication and adding his signature to the declaration of new life. Then the Sun seals the deal with his notary stamp as he joins Mercury on Sept 20th, pledging to uphold the integrity of the Nodes and personal responsibility. At the same time, Venus joins the Virgo Coalition until Oct 14th. Her stay in this earthy sign and trine to Pluto bring out her utilitarian side and favors the practical transformation that Pluto embodies.

Just prior to the Autumn Equinox (spring in the Southern Hemisphere) on Sept 22nd, Mercury retrogrades back into Saturn, activating the Uranus opposition and causing some minor whiplash. With the Sun in Libra until Oct 23rd, a little diplomacy and some chiropractic adjustment should enable a fair outcome and avoid unnecessary combat.

We may want to add an Acupuncture series, some arnica and therapeutic massage to the settlement when the Sun squares Pluto on Sept 23rd, aggravating old injuries and power struggles. Cooperation is the keyword, but with Mercury opposing Uranus, our reactions may precede our common sense. Our inner sense of power is the real issue, as is our ability to accurately speak our truth without guilt or blame. Clearly, this can be a time of enormous realization and growth.

“If you want to be somebody else,
If you’re tired of fighting battles with yourself
If you want to be somebody else
Change your mind…”
Sister Hazel

Continuing through Sept 24th and early evening of the 25th, the Moon in Sagittarius shoots her mystical arrows into infinite dimensions, bringing us greater wisdom and freedom to be ourselves.

On the evening of Sept 25th, the Moon enters Capricorn, conjuncting Pluto and then squaring the Sun on the 26th, at last bringing up that chronic hairball. Lady Moon’s stay in Saturn’s home until the morning of Sept 28th may stir up emotions and finally bring understanding and resolution to long term anxiety. What a relief to break the hidden tension and face this pivotal turning point!

The veils begin to lift as Luna moves into futuristic Aquarius from the morning of Sept 28th to the evening of the 30th. Mercury’s direct movement early on Sept 29th gives us the go-ahead to begin actualizing the visions we’ve been assessing since Sept 7th. Then the Moon joins with Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune in Aquarius and the radiance lights a path of possibilities for us to dance on.

“Hey hey
Have you ever danced in the rain
Or thanked the sun
Just for shining - just for shining
Or the sea?
Oh no - take it all in
The world’s a show
And yeah, you look much better,
Look much better when you glow”
Sister Hazel

September 2009 – Part I

“I read the news today oh, boy
Four thousand holes in Blackburn,
Lancashire
And though the holes were rather small
They had to count them all
Now they know how many holes it takes
To fill the Albert Hall.”
John Lennon/Paul McCartney

This month’s Mercury Retrograde from Sep 7th through 29th cuts an exceptionally wide path of change and revision due to the unusual number of powerful aspects our winged messenger encounters. In addition, the planetary lineup in Virgo, also ruled by intellectual Mercury, increases as the month progresses. So, keep your pencils sharpened and lots of erasers handy as we calculate, assess, delete and rework, then change our minds again.

The Moon in luminous Aquarius lights up the sky with expectant optimism on Sep 1st, 2nd and until noon on the 3rd, as our vision and idealism are reflected by friends and associates. Later, Mercury square Mars can amplify their annoying traits and we may decide that we’ve had enough camaraderie for now.

The Full Moon on Sep 4th is the perfect embodiment of the right brain/left brain portrayal. The Sun in practical Virgo seeks logic and proof, while the Moon in Pisces accesses intuition and creativity. Brilliant Virgo provides pragmatic applications as spiritual Pisces engenders trust and faith. In actuality, it is the appropriate application of both valuable perspectives that can enable our highest human development. Just as the corpus callosum provides a connecting bridge for both hemispheres of our physical brain, so a willingness to take a leap in consciousness can link our historical world view with the dimensional shift that is already occurring. Sooo…

“Might as well jump. Jump!
Go ahead, jump.”
Van Halen

Emotions can range from self-blame to rebellion and on to deep introspection on Sep 5th, as the Moon moves through a series of challenging aspects. On both the 5th and the 6th, keep a rein on reactivity and channel all that energy into your last minute preparations for Retrograde Mercury on the 7th. Make sure your computer is backed up and your virus protection is up to date. You may also want to stockpile those annual hurricane supplies ahead of time, especially with Saturn opposing unpredictable Uranus later this month. Secure the details for any travel arrangements and send out those pending communications so you can spend Labor Day under a beach umbrella, enjoying your favorite tropical drink.

From Sep 7th until Sep 29th, Mercury Retrograde directs us to reflect on the events of the past few months and encourages us to review recent revelations and information. From Sep 7th to the 17th, his backward motion in Libra focuses on our relationships and a balance between the needs of self and others. From Sep 18th to the 29th, continuing in reverse, Mercury backs up into Virgo to double check the details of all things practical. For more information and Current Mercury Quirks, go to the recap at Mercury Retrograde.

The Moon in Taurus stays pretty grounded and productive on Sep 8th, yet its sensual nature may tempt us into indulgences on the 9th, and manifest an interesting combination of time traveling dreams that lead to innovative approaches in the wee hours and morning of the 10th.

Venus opposition Jupiter on Sep 11th and the days surrounding it brings generosity and loving benevolence. Yet, just like a whole chocolate layer cake in the refrigerator (very good) can turn into guilty excess (not so good), so this aspect can also tend toward financial or energetic waste. Remember the virtues of balance that our Mercury Retrograde in Libra instills.

Also on Sep 11th, Pluto turns direct in an initially subtle move that builds and builds in intensity over the months to come. Note all the political and economic toxicity that has come to light since Pluto entered Capricorn last December, sounding the call for absolute integrity. Individually and globally we are entering a time when transformation extends from the internal to the external affairs of our world and beyond. The time for personal empowerment has come, as has the responsibility to monitor both ourselves and our political and corporate institutions. Long gone are the days when we could say:

“Somebody shake me, wake me when it’s over
Somebody tell me that I’m dreamin’
And wake me when it’s over.”
The Four Tops

We are awake and the dream is ours to craft.

The Moon loves coming home to Cancer as she does late afternoon Sep 12th, continuing into early evening Sep 14th , - unless she feels insecure, which may stir things up mid-day on the 13th. Just chill out, bake some goodies and share them with loved ones and co-workers to ensure success on the 14th.

Here comes the unexpected (yet sensed all month) earthquakes, hurricanes and wildfires in the arenas of economics, politics, personal lives and of course earth changes. Remember those emergency supplies we recommended earlier? On Sep 15th, Saturn opposes Uranus in its third pivotal point in a series of five aspects that began last November and complete July 2010. The rumblings of a whole new model of life on Earth have been shaking up the status quo, as the effects of Saturn opposition Uranus rock our world through the summer of 2010.

Saturn represents structure, limitations, form and convention. Many relate it to earthly survival fears, inhibitions and the ability to respond appropriately to challenging circumstances. It is the rock and salvation of right action and healthy foundations. In short, Saturn represents the elimination of ineffective patterns and the creation of fundamental structures through which our spiritual selves can creatively express in human form.

Uranus stands for inventiveness, individuality, lightning, freedom and unconventionality. It loves to color outside the lines and can be disruptive due to its unexpected nature. Yet fairness and humanitarian principles are its motivating force. Truly, its eccentric revolutionary character enables the radical change necessary for futuristic thinking, technological advances and a new way of living to become a reality.

It may feel like King Kong versus Godzilla, as the earth trembles. And yet, the inclusion of both elements is necessary to evolve a world that really can manifest our dreams and a flexible blueprint that incorporates our practical considerations in the process. Our illusions have already been shattered. But we can do a Martha Stewart with the resulting shards and salvage the pieces we love to reinvent our lives as an original work of art.

August 2009 – Part II

“Life in the fast lane
Surely make you lose your mind
Life in the fast lane, everything all the time
Life in the fast lane, uh huh”
Joe Walsh/Don Henley/Glenn Frey

The second half of August appears like a bolt out of the blue, as Mars squares Uranus on Aug 18th, sending debris flying in all directions for weeks. Forget about the status quo and be prepared for surprising events, as the unfamiliar may reveal useful information. The best way to deal with this is to avoid precipitous action and cultivate an attitude of flexible calm.

Aug 19th brings fundamental shifts, as the Nodes of the Moon change signs with the North Node in Capricorn and the South Node in Cancer until March 2011. During this time, we are prompted to take more charge of our lives and our world by personally partaking in the restructuring. We can no longer assume that our welfare will be protected by anyone else and our security is now up to us. The more we assume individual responsibility, the more rewarding our lives will become. In the same spirit, also on the 19th, Venus sextiles Saturn, making it a great day to rearrange finances, discuss business alignments and fulfill obligations with ease.

The New Moon in Leo on Aug 20th gives a different definition to our heroic feline. With the Sun and Moon in Leo in opposition to the Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune triumvirate, we’re commissioned to invent a fresh model that recognizes the individual while serving the larger whole. In our deepest heartfelt desire, where do our dreams take us? Can we summon the courage to break from our conformity and assume a greater identity that calls to us? For it is in living the integrity of our fullness that we may take our true place in the grand universal plan. In doing so, we can then also draw to us necessary resources and beings of like mind to collaborate with, to play with and to love. What the world needs is the uniqueness of all that we are.

“You say yes, I say no,
You say stop, I say go, go, go.
Oh no.
You say goodbye and I say hello, hello, hello.
I
don’t know why you say goodbye I say hello.”
John Lennon/Paul McCartney

That pretty much sums up the personality profile of Mercury opposing Uranus on
Aug 21st. Unexpected news, strange communications and inconsistent thoughts are likely threads. Because of the irregularity, hold off jumping the gun and be open to surprising breakthroughs.

Gratefully, Aug 22nd brings the sweetness of both Angel Sarah’s birthday and gentle Venus trine innovative Uranus. The former brings light onto our planet and the latter holds promise for unexpected enjoyment, finances and romance. Then the Sun enters Virgo until Sep 22nd, helping us to ground and give substance to our emerging visions and realizations.

Aug 23rd can bring meaningful experiences that confirm a sense of inner power and real transformation as the radiant Sun trines mighty Pluto. This long lasting aspect is like an inner shot of wheatgrass that energizes ongoing, productive change for days.

Practical ideas that support our new structures come together on Aug 25th when Mercury trines the North Node. Then Mars moves into Cancer until Oct 16th, followed by Mercury entering Libra until Oct 28th. Assertive warrior Mars may feel a bit uncomfortable in this watery sign, as he struggles to prove his strength in an arena ruled by feelings. At the same time, mental Mercury squares Mars, frustrating his efforts as he seeks to affect the peace desired by harmony seeking Libra.

Aug 26th starts off with Venus conjunct the South Node and opposite the North Node, tempting us with relaxing down time and distracting us from the tasks in front of us. On the other hand, this diversion may be well earned karma like a yummy treat to delight and refresh us. Then damsel Venus dresses up in her party best and moves into regal Leo until Sep 20th, reminding us all to keep a sense of play in our work. However, this attitude may be temporarily overshadowed by both Mercury and Mars in difficult aspect to Pluto. Simmering resentments can surface and any slights may be seen as declarations of war. Proceed carefully and avoid reacting from survival mode.

The Moon in Sagittarius on Aug 27th and 28th brings a welcome break and calls to us with promises of adventure and hope. Then, Mercury sextiles Venus and enjoyable interactions can bring news that confirms the optimism.

The Moon in Capricorn on Aug 29th, 30th and 31st adds a serious tone, especially on the 29th, when challenging aspects can bring up those persistent demons that we tend to push down and rationalize. Holding awareness that our reaction can be an automatic defense enables us to go beyond our panic to a deeper place of safety that only our connection with the Divine provides.

This shift in consciousness will be especially timely, as we prepare for Mercury Retrograde on Sep 7th and the handy box of tools that September reveals to pave the way for a new paradigm.

August 2009 – Part I

“And there’s so much time to make up
Everywhere you turn
Time we have wasted on the way
So much water moving
Underneath the bridge
Let the water come and carry us away.”
Graham Nash/Putzy Putzy

August is the month to step up and face the remnants of the past in order to accurately create a new future. It’s not a time for guilt or blame. It’s just time to do it differently. Enormous progress is possible on the inner planes and in concrete outer results, as we commit more fully to core transformation, not mere cosmetic fixes. What used to placate no longer suffices. The whole month is a veritable piñata filled with inspiration, techniques and some twists and turns helping us to face the challenges of real change.

Tender Venus opposes big brute Pluto on Aug 1st and it’s the damsel in distress versus Schwarzenegger fulfilling his promised “I’ll be back.” Control and manipulation regarding relationships and finance are prominent. But so is the opportunity to purge any fear-based possessiveness or selfishness and bring healing to our interactions. With the Moon conjunct Pluto on Aug 2nd, emotions can deepen, bringing our insecurities to the surface for clearing.

Also on the 2nd until Aug 25th Mercury comes home to Virgo, ready to assess, dissect, organize the paperwork and clean behind the refrigerator. Then Mercury’s mental work is made easier by a trine to Pluto on Aug 3rd, revealing the workings beneath the surface and enabling profound communications in all areas.

The third of our summer Eclipses emerges on Aug 5th, as the Full Moon Eclipse in Aquarius. With the Sun in Leo, we are seeking new ways to express our creative individuality and still participate in the planetary shift. Where do we shine and experience the fulfillment that comes from utilizing more of our real gifts? How can we set our habits of pride and ego aside and bring forth those gifts, aligned with higher purpose to interact with like-minded others? This is the time to activate the power of the individual heightened by the energy of the whole and vice versa. And this Full Moon can well illuminate the next steps to a major coming out party.

On Aug 6th, positive manifestations from yesterday’s revelations take form as the Moon trines Mars and conjuncts Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune, raising our hopes and visionary expectations. Good news and enjoyable interactions continue as Mercury sextiles Venus on Aug 7th, keeping the mood light.

Then things can get a bit edgy as the Moon squares Mars and opposes Saturn on Aug 8th, reminding us to mind our impatience. The rocky weather may continue on Aug 9th as the Moon conjuncts Uranus and squares Pluto, sensitizing our reactivity. You might want to treat yourself to a flowering plant or get out in nature to keep your mental environment clear for a few days.

Some of that frustration may be coming from the restrictive feeling of Mars squaring Saturn from Aug 1st to 22nd, exact on Aug 10th, asking us to take it slow and steady. Mars in Gemini just wants to keep moving in all directions and Saturn in Virgo insists on paying attention to all the traffic signs. Actually, this attention to detail and structure will support the movement and bring consistent long lasting rewards.

We can relax (phew) on Aug 11th and 12th, as the Moon makes supportive aspects to the Sun, Mars, Jupiter, Chiron, Neptune and Pluto, bringing a feeling of harmony and peace. Is that the Fifth Dimension singing “Let the sun shine. Let the sun shine in…” in the background?

Here comes the good stuff. On Aug 13th through 17th, Mars trines Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune, waving the flag to initiate new enterprises and go forward on existing ones. Much healing and visionary planning can occur during this auspicious time. As the Moon also squares Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune, as long as we monitor overexpansion and stay grounded, new horizons should be quite promising.

From Aug 14th to 17th, the Sun also opposes Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune, continuing the theme of inspired action and expanded perspective. As the Sun sextiles Mars, the desire to keep doing is intensified. Fortunately, Mercury conjuncts Saturn, asking for boundaries and definition, so that all our efforts and expectations are not over-inflated. With appropriate assessments and ongoing reality checks, inspired projects can integrate our highest hopes and ideals for a new reality.

July 2009 – Part II

I see my light come shining
From the west unto the east.
Any day now, any day now,
I shall be released.”
Bob Dylan

After an extended siege of ongoing changes masked by foggy direction, Mercury trine Uranus brings a welcome break on Jul 16th. Brilliant ideas and flashes of insight fill the air, stimulating our ability to both perceive and communicate.

Mercury bounds into Leo from Jul 17th until Aug 2nd, announcing his grand entry with typical feline pride while expecting applause. During this time, verbal interactions can be more creative and enthusiastic. Just monitor any tendency toward stubbornness or logic diminishing drama. With our winged messenger also conjunct the South Node and opposing the North Node, it’s easy to take things personally and miss the greater picture. Memories of past wounds and misunderstandings may skew our vision, so step back and refocus with fresh perspective.

Our world and our psyches are ripe for real change from Jul 13th through Jul 22nd, as the Sun trines Uranus, exact on Jul 18th. There’s lots of energy available to seek a different way or venture onto a road less-traveled. Are you tired of the same old, same old? Try reaching out with a new response and open expectations.

The Moon in Cancer on Jul 20th foreshadows the building emotional Vesuvius, preparing to release on tomorrow’s Total Solar Eclipse. For now, Mercury’s sextile to Mars adds a lighter touch and maintains our sense of humor.

Each month, the New Moon brings opportunity for us to reset the energy for the following 28 day cycle. This year, we have two new Moons in Cancer, denoting great significance to the mastery of this nurturing, sensitive sign in our own natures. Add in the factors of a Super Moon (closest to Earth), a Moon Wobble (involving the Nodes of the Moon and the Sun) creating a Total Solar Eclipse on Jul 21st, and we’ve got the makings of a major Hollywood epic production whose effects could last six months.! So get out your 3-D glasses, tune in your inner sound system and prepare for an interactive experience.

The day starts with Venus square Saturn, often evoking a sense of isolation, financial pondering or imagined inadequacies. Realize that you and others are only human and this too shall pass. In a positive vein, this hyper-focus may be useful for eliminating unproductive burdens, habits and relationships.

With the Sun and Moon in late Cancer, it’s time to relinquish leftover childish defenses and habitual emotional reactions. Where do we get scared that we won’t be understood? When do we fear that there may never be a family or group that includes us? How do we push others away before they can reject us first? With the Sun and Moon one degree from the South Node in Leo, the truth can more easily surface – about ourselves and others in positions of power, enabling appropriate adjustments. Releasing our addiction to those painfully comfortable responses carves out much needed space to create the life that suits our true nature.

Jupiter once again conjuncts Chiron on Jul 22nd, expanding our ability to resolve the past and initiate those systems that support our higher evolution. The Sun then leaps in Leo, setting the royal stage until Aug 22nd. With the Sun, South Node, Moon and Mercury in Leo on Jul 22nd and 23rd, we get to choose the nature of our own personal monarchy. We can lapse into competitive petty dictatorship or we can spread the light and warmth of a regal heart with our generosity and playfulness.

The Moon in Virgo on Jul 24th can help us to focus and edit. Yet, on the 25th, this skillful critic can get myopic and impatient, so keep your finger off the trigger.

From July 21st through 31st, exact on the 27th and 28th, Venus trines Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune, opening the spigot for resources, creativity and helpful relationships to flow full force. The Magi Society calls this configuration of Venus and Chiron the Cinderella Aspect, so be sure to attend the ball wearing those magical glass slippers. Shadowing this same time is an aspect that can bring unexpected expenses or relationship changes. So, as Venus squares Uranus, take care to secure your newfound gains and set up that pre-nupt.

On Jul 30th and 31st, Mercury opposes Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune, reminding us to check all details, facts and figures and clarify that you heard what I said in response to what I thought you said. Then lovely Venus moves from sociable Gemini to nurturing, home-loving Cancer until Aug 26th. Prepare to get comfy with a plentiful supply of slice ‘n bake cookies to fortify you for the next Eclipse on Aug 5th.

July 2009 – Part I

“It’s like thunder, lightning
The way you love me is frightening
I better knock on wood”
Eddie Floyd & Steve Cropper

With two Eclipses, hurricane season and US Independence Day, July’s fireworks can be quite spectacular all month, as the universe expresses its love for us in options for change.

Jul 1st and 2nd remind me of one of those candy bars that are filled with everything you love and a few extras you’re not so sure about. Uranus begins his retrograde journey on the 1st until Dec 1st, recalling the unexpected turns and insights of the past four months. Venus squares Chiron, Neptune and Jupiter on both days, stimulating our imagination while tempting us to overextend. Enjoy the reverie and keep your commitments flexible until the picture clarifies after the Jul 7th Eclipse.
